The Feast of St Peter And St Paul

Sts. Peter & Paul
Jesus put this question to his
disciples: “Who do people say the Son of
Man is?” That would not seem like a question
that we would be able to answer today. But for
us it can be translated into the question of:
“where do people look for their happiness,
their fulfilment, their hope?” Everyone
is looking for these in their lives, some in very
strange places. The second question Jesus asks
is: “Who do you say I am?” And Peter
answers: “You are the Christ, the Son of
the living God.” The core of our Christian
faith is that Jesus is the only one who can teach
us true human living. He teaches it very clearly
as the way of love. That is the only way to happiness
and fulfilment and hope – the only way to
the fullness of life. This has huge implications
for us in marriage, the sacrament of love; in
family life, the school of love; and in our faith
community, the prophet of love. The practice of
our faith is measured mainly by how we love God
with our whole hearts and how we love one another.
Fr. Johnny Doherty, C.Ss.R.

If Jesus came to your house to
spend a day or two
If He came unexpectedly, I wonder what you’d
do
Oh, I know you’d give your nicest room to
such a honoured guest
And all the food you’d serve to Him would
be the very best,
And you’d keep assuring Him you’re
glad to have Him there-
That serving Him in your home is joy beyond compare.
But when you saw Him coming would you meet Him
at the door
With arms outstretched in welcome to your Heavenly
Visitor?
Or would you have to change your clothes before
you let him in
Or hide some magazines and put the Bibles where
they’d been?
Would you turn off the radio and hope He hadn’t
heard
And wish you hadn’t uttered that last, loud,
hasty word?
Would you hide your wordly music and put some
hymn books out?
Could you let Jesus walk right in, or would you
rush about?
And I wonder - if the Saviour spent a day or two
with you,
Would you go right on doing the things you always
do?
Would you keep right on saying the things you
always say?
Would life for you continue as it does from day
to day?
Would your family conversation keep up it’s
usual pace?
And would you find it hard each meal to say a
table grace?
Would you sing the words you sing and read the
books you read?
And let Him know the things on which your mind
and spirit feed?
Would you take Jesus with you everywhere you’d
planned to go?
Or would you maybe change your plans for just
a day or so?
Would you be glad to have Him meet your very closest
friends,
Or would you hope they’d stay away until
His visit ends?
Would you be glad to have him stay forever on
and on,
Or would you sigh with great relief when He at
last was gone,
It might be interesting to know the things
that you would do
If Jesus Christ in person came to spend some time
with you.

Questions people ask

Q. It appears that Peter
and Paul did not always get on too well together.
So, isn’t it odd to celebrate the two of
them in the one feast?
A. One or two
differences of strategy would not mean that they
were always at odds with one another. They were
united in their dedication to Christ, their missionary
zeal and the courageous witness of martyrdom.
Another reason for a joint celebration is to present
them as the founding fathers of the church in
Rome, then the political capital of the world.
Christians saw them replacing Romulus and Remus,
traditionally regarded as the founders of Rome.

The girls from Sacred Heart College
would like to express their heartfelt thanks for
the overwhelming generosity of the Parishioners
of the Sacred Heart Church last week. The total
amount raised was £6,160 which will make
a huge impact on the lives of the babies and young
children in Fagaras. Thank you all very much.
Words of Wisdom
Our death is not an end
