Answering God’s Call

The disciples asked Jesus 'where do you live?' He replied 'come and see'. One of the most beautiful truths of our faith is found in the promise that Jesus made to us "where two or three are gathered in my name I am there with them." It is an answer for us to the question that the disciples asked. Jesus lives in our community with one another because of our baptism. He lives in every married couple because of the sacrament they share. He lives in every home because of the love that bonds us to one another as parents with children, as sisters and brothers. The significance of our parish is that it is not merely a place where we worship but is a real presence of Christ in our world. We will only see him in all these special places in so far as we answer his call to love God with our whole heart and to love one another as he loves us.

Do Not Look Forward in Fear

Do not look forward in fear to the changes of life;
Rather look to them with full hope that they arise.
God, whose very own you are, will lead you safely through
All things; and when you cannot stand it, will carry you
In His arms.

Do not fear what may happen tomorrow;
the same Everlasting Father who cared
For you today will take care
Of you then and every day.
He will either shield you from suffering, or will give you
Unfailing strength to bear it.
Be at peace and put aside
All anxious thought and imaginations.

Questions people ask

Q. How many different names did Saint Peter have?

A. He is called Simon, Peter and Cephas. Simon was his original name. In Aramaic, which Jesus spoke, Cephas is the word for a rock. Peter is its Greek translation. In this new name Jesus indicated his role as the rock on which he would build his church. The letters of Paul refer to him as Cephas eight times and as Peter twice. The gospels, written later than Paul’s letters, nearly always use the Greek form, Peter, as the Christian Church was, by then, using Greek and Latin far more than Aramaic.
