20th
Sunday in Ordinary Time

Jesus said to the crowd: ‘Anyone
who eats this bread will live forever’.
To live forever is one of the longings in every
human heart. And yet death is part of every human
life. Jesus reveals though that death is not the
end but only the beginning of new life and he
has led the way for us through his resurrection.
And he gives us his own body and blood to lead
us into eternal life. Through the Eucharist we
are already united with life that will last forever,
a life that we are called on to live now through
our love for God and for one another. Eucharistic
people are meant to be people who live life to
the full, people who radiate hope, people who
are known for their joy and gladness in being
alive, people who forgive easily and often, people
who bring peace and happiness into the lives of
all whom they meet.

Following the bombing of 15th
August 1998, a number of gifts ‘for the
people of Omagh’ were received by Omagh
District Council from organisations and individuals.
Some of the pieces will be
kept for historical purposes in the Omagh Library
archive, however, there are a number of pieces
which the Council feels should be placed on
display at various locations around Omagh, where
they can be viewed by the local community.
Omagh District Council has
identified one piece which they wish to donate,
on a permanent basis, to the Sacred Heart Church
as follows:
Framed Cultured Pearl Cross
entitled ‘Peace’ – presented
by Mr Danny Garcia from the manufacturers, Lu
Coral, of Hong Kong. The piece contains 8,000
cultured pearls and only two in the world exist
– the other was presented to Pope John
Paul II and is located in the Vatican.
This framed Pearl Cross has
now been granted on permanent loan to the Sacred
Heart Church.

Questions people ask
Q. If the Eucharistic Bread was subjected to laboratory
testing before and after the consecration, would
the results be any different?
A. There is no chemical or physical change
at the consecration, so the chemical analysis
would yield the same result before and
after the consecration. In the same way, a chemical
test on Jesus of Nazareth during his life on earth
would have found the elements of a human body
but would not have detected his divinity. Our
faith is based on the words of Jesus. The Son
of God dwelt for some thirty-three years in human
nature, and now he comes to us as the bread of
life, made holy in the consecrated bread and wine.
