Sixth Sunday in Ordinary Time

Fixing his eyes on his disciples Jesus said: “How happy are you who are poor; yours is the kingdom of God. Alas for you who are rich; you are having your consolation now”. Isn’t this a very difficult teaching to accept, even when we know that it comes from Jesus? And because it is difficult, we can tend to ignore it and go on our way. Obviously Jesus is not promoting poverty. Rather he is saying that when we are poor we know that we depend on God. When we have riches we put our trust in them even though in reality we still depend totally on God for everything including our next breath. The task of every human person is to let go of our self-importance and enter into the wonderful love relationship God wants to have with us. We will then use our resources, material and spiritual, for the well-being of each other.

What is Love?

This question was posed to a group of 4 to 8 year-olds: "What does love mean?"

Love is that feeling you feel before all the bad stuff gets in the way.

When my grandmother got arthritis, she couldn't bend over and paint her toenails anymore. So my grandfather does it for her all the time, even when his hands got arthritis too. That's love.

Love is when you go out to eat and give somebody most of your chips without making them give you any of theirs.

Love is what makes you smile when you're tired.

Love is when my mummy makes coffee for my daddy and she takes a sip before giving it to him, to make sure the taste is okay.

When you tell someone something bad about yourself and you're scared they won't love you anymore. But then you get surprised because not only do they still love you, they love you even more.

There are two kinds of love -- our love, and God's love. But God makes both kinds.

During my piano recital, I was on a stage and scared. I looked at all the people watching me and saw my daddy waving and smiling. He was the only one doing that. I wasn't scared anymore.

My mummy loves me more than anybody. You don't see anyone else kissing me to sleep at night.

Love is when mummy gives daddy the best piece of chicken.

Love is when mummy sees daddy tired and sweaty and still says he is handsomer than Brad Pitt.

Valentine's cards say stuff on them that we'd like to say ourselves, but we wouldn't be caught dead saying.

The Footprints of God - A Retreat for Lent

Church of Christ the King, Strathroy

Monday Evenings from 15th February @ 8 – 9 pm

(Tea, coffee & refreshments served at the end of each evening)
Each Monday evening of Lent (beginning on Monday before Ash Wednesday), we will journey reflectively with Jesus as he makes his way to Jerusalem.
As we reflect on the journey Jesus took to Jerusalem, where he suffered and died for us, we grow in an understanding of the journey of our own lives and find nourishment and guidance for our pilgrimage through life.

Collection for Haiti

We would like to thank all those who contributed to the recent collection for the Victims of the Haiti Earthquake. The collection raised an amazing total of £16,944 and €521.65. We have passed this money directly to Trócaire, who have assured us that the money will go straight to Haiti. Their personnel already working there will use the funds collected to provide necessities for those most affected by this tragedy.
