The 28th Sunday in Ordinary Time

Many are called but few are chosen.

"Everything is ready. Come to the wedding." I have been at several weddings again this year and it strikes me that no matter how many you go to they are always great occasions. You never get tired of them. That's what Jesus wants for us as his people - that we would be wedding people, joyful, happy, and celebrating. In response to his word this week make a special effort to bring this sense of joy to one another, as this is a vital way to practise our faith. This is particularly important in our homes so that all who live there may know the wonder of God's love. It takes a real effort on the part of everyone to constantly create this sense of gladness but it is well worth the effort. It is also so important in the parish community to develop this sense of freedom for one another so that others can come to know how much they are loved.

Fr. Johnny Doherty, C.Ss.R

Gift Aid Declaration Forms

We appeal to anyone who has recently received a Gift Aid Declaration Form to return it to the Parish Office as soon as possible. This can be done, either by using the pre-paid envelope provided, or by placing the completed form in the collection basket this weekend. We thank you for your help in this matter.

Prayer

Prayer brings peace to the restless, It changes things you know.
The more you pray, the more your faith, Will grow and grow and grow.

Prayer is sweet communion, With a friend who really cares.
No matter what the problem is, No matter when or where.

Prayer is like food to the hungry, It fills an empty soul.
And then when the prayers are answered, Your faith in God will grow.

Prayer is the key to Heaven, Where the angels sing each day.
And when the door is open, God is listening while we pray

Questions people ask

Q. My mind is constantly battling with wrong thoughts, uncharitable, envious and impure. Are these terrible sins?

A. St Teresa of Avila called the imagination the fool of the house. Imagination and memory come up with every sort of improper thought. Improper thoughts are to be regarded as sinful only when they are wilful, that is, when one deliberately nurtures them. You sound as if you do not want them. When you talk of battling, I wonder if an unnecessary feeling of guilt is causing a certain obsession in your mind. Be gentler with yourself in accepting that we have a fallen nature and praise God who sees your desire to be better.

Youth is like spring, an over praised season more remarkable for biting winds than genial breezes. Autumn is the mellower season, and what we lose in flowers we more than gain in fruits. ~ Samuel Butler
