The
Body & Blood of Christ

“They
all ate as much as they wanted, and when the scraps
remaining were collected they filled twelve baskets.”
The miracle of the five loaves and two fish distributed
among so many people is given to us as a symbol
of the greatest gift and miracle of all, the Eucharist.
As God’s people we are so privileged to
be fed with the Body and Blood of Christ week
after week, so much so that we can even take it
for granted. We have a responsibility to keep
the wonder of this gift alive in us. We also have
the responsibility to live this miracle through
our love for one another in our homes and communities.
Through the power of Christ there was more left
over after thousands of people had been fed than
when they started. That is what the same Jesus
wants to happen among us today as a result of
the Eucharist we celebrate.
Fr. Johnny Doherty, C.Ss.R.

Cemetery
Sunday in the Parish of Drumragh 2010
The annual Service of Intercession for the Dead
takes place today (Sunday) in Drumragh Cemetery
at 3 pm and in the Dublin Road Cemetery at 5 pm.
Those travelling
by car to the Service in St Mary’s, Drumragh,
are asked to follow a one-way system. This is
in the interests of road safety and to minimise
traffic congestion. The access point for ALL vehicles
approaching St Mary’s Cemetery is by Lough
Muck on the main Dromore Road, opposite O’Kane
Park. Stewards will direct you to car parking
which will be adjacent to our within the graveyard
area. The car park at the cemetery is reserved
for the use of disabled people only. Please note
all other entries to St Mary’s Church shall
be closed before the ceremony. After the ceremony,
when leaving the car park, motorists will be asked
to turn right.
Those attending the Dublin Road Ceremony are asked
to park their cars on the left side of the Dublin
Road only (same side as the cemetery) and co-operate
with parish stewards and PSNI personnel on duty.
Everyone is asked to remember that the Dublin
Road is a busy through route and, therefore, special
care should be taken. The Order of Malta Ambulance
Service will be in attendance at both services.
Please note: Everyone is asked to bring a small
container of Holy Water with them, as all families
will bless their own graves.

Corpus Christi
Today we celebrate the Feast of Corpus Christi,
the feast of the Body and Blood of Christ. From
New Testament times the use of the term Corpus
Christi/Body and Blood of Christ has referred
to Christ’s sacramental presence in the
Eucharist and also to His Body, which is the Church.
St Augustine maintained “If you answer Amen
to the words ‘Body of Christ’, be
then a member of the Body of Christ to verify
your Amen”.
Novena to the Sacred
Heart
This year during the Novena to the Sacred Heart
we are invited to keep a special intention in
mind during our prayer. Everyone is aware of the
terrible damage done to individuals and families
as a result of child abuse. We pray during the
novena for enlightenment and guidance as to the
way forward for the Church in the diocese and
in the country. Each day the reader will call
us to prayer at the beginning of Mass and prayers
will follow at Communion time. There is a sacred
space at the Sacred Heart statue beside the sanctuary
composed under the theme “By His wounds
we are healed” (Isaiah). There is also an
opportunity to write a prayer petition or suggestion
relating to the issue of child abuse. This can
be placed in the basket provided.
